Without programming the headlamp, it is defaulted to dim to 800 lumens after 10 seconds. You can program the headlamp to have the light stay at 1500 lumens for longer though.
To do this, you will have to activate Temperature Mode. Temperature Mode maximizes the light output while maintaining safe operating temperatures when PowerTap is activated. In this mode, the light is at 1500 lumens, and if the light starts to become hot, it will automatically dim. If you allow more airflow to go through the headlamp, or are in a colder environment and the headlamp is not getting too hot, it will stay at 1500 lumens.
To activate this mode, you will first have to take the battery pack off for at least 10 seconds. Put the battery pack back on, and then press and hold both buttons- the lights will start flashing blue, and then flash red. To activate Temperature Mode, release the buttons when it starts flashing red. You can then turn the headlamp on with one click of the on button, and then press the power tap button on the side of the headlamp.
